Justin Metzger

Coach Justin has been coaching CrossFit for over a decade and brings a unique blend of experience from the gym, the classroom, and the track. He’s a CrossFit Level 3 Trainer, a former collegiate head cross country and track & field coach, and a National Board Certified teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience, which means he really knows how to explain things in a way that makes sense to everyone. At Blackbird CrossFit, Coach Justin is known for clear coaching, a strong focus on movement quality, and creating an environment where everyone feels supported. Whether you’re brand new to CrossFit or have years of experience, he meets athletes where they are and helps them move better, train smarter, and build confidence, no matter their background, age, or ability level.

Justin has a passion for aerobic capacity, running, and long-term athlete development, but above all, he believes fitness should be inclusive, sustainable, and enjoyable. He’s big on pacing, mechanics, and consistency, and even bigger on making sure the gym feels like a welcoming place where people are encouraged to grow at their own pace. Originally from the Pittsburgh, PA area, Justin still proudly carries his Yinzer roots with him. While he now lives in Sykesville, MD (about a mile from the gym), his love for all things Pittsburgh runs deep. That mix of blue-collar grit, loyalty, and community pride shapes how

he coaches; show up, work hard, support the people around you, and don’t take yourself too seriously along the way.
